The Tool Kit: A Notebook Subclass
Volume 1, Issue 2
Fall 1990
Russell J. Dubisch, Siena College
A category of Mathematica Notebook, called a tool kit,
serves to exemplify the kind of pedagogic interface that may be utilized
by a relatively naive user to solve problems involving algebraic operations.
The possibility of the widespread use of tool kits has important implications
for educational strategies in such quantitative subjects as physics and
mathematics. An example tool kit is described, and an example of its use
is shown. Coding techniques and the desirable characteristics of a tool-kit-oriented
front end are discussed.
