Introduction

Well, I guess it had to happen: all my hopes of finding truth and justice in science seem to have been dashed. Why? Well, let's just blame it on a symbol for now----it's easier that way.

"Fatalist!" you may shout. "Determinist!" I hurl your way in return.

Intellectual punches are thrown, irrational numbers are produced, terms are factored. Pretty soon it's like the whole World Wrestling Federation has cut loose in the laboratory.

The problem as it turns out is that we're running into some real limits with what we can do with mathematics. As a foundation of all that we worship, we might have to deal with explaining some unfortunate characteristics of the chosen faith, at least as far as Greg Chaitin is concerned [1].
