Global Optimization 4.1 Released 
Loehle Enterprises has released Version 4.1 of Global Optimization, which uses Mathematica. The new release brings to eight the number of functions for global optimization problem solving. The new function, GlobalSearch, combines the generalized derivative-based steepest descent method with a path-following algorithm for constraint satisfaction. This algorithm adds a new level of reliability to the package. In addition, several performance enhancements increase speed dramatically. For example, a 100-variable unconstrained quadratic minimization problem now takes only 4.5 seconds on a 600-megahertz machine. The functionality of the nonlinear regression function has been improved with the addition of ChiSquare, L1, and L2 norms as options for fit criteria. For more information, visit
